BEHIND THE BRUSH

Hi, I'm Hieu! 

The person behind Illustrations by Hieu — usually found with a brush in my hand, drawing people, chatting to guests and trying not to lose track of who I've already drawn.

Funny enough, this all started at my own wedding. I drew little illustrations of our guests as keepsakes, and watching everyone find their drawings ended up being one of my favourite parts of the whole day. People would laugh, compare drawings with their friends, come back to find someone else who hadn't been drawn yet... And that's really what I love about live illustration. 

It's not just about the finished drawing. It's the experience around it.

My style is vibrant, playful and expressive, with bold, loose lines and plenty of colour! I’m not trying to make every line perfect or create a traditional portrait — I like capturing the little details, expressions and quirks that make someone feel like them.

From busy dance floors to quiet garden corners, I’m there with a brush in hand, soaking up the atmosphere and turning the people and moments around me into something you can keep.
